Downlights are available in recessed and surface mount types, which should be chosen to suit the area of use and design.
2. Ceiling height and distance
Downlight distance = ceiling height ÷ 2, for example, a 3 meter high ceiling, downlight distance 1.5m to 2m
3. Amount of light required

For example, a 12 sq m kitchen requires 150 – 200 lux of general lighting.
Lux requirement = 12 sq m. x 200 lux = 2400 lumens
Downlight lamp, brightness 400 lumens
Number of lights required = 2400 lumens/400 lumens = 6 lamps
4. Choose the right light
